The Phantom of the Opera, Auckland NZ, 2016

The Phantom of the Opera
9th February 2016
The Civic, Auckland, New Zealand

I am a huge fan of The Phantom of the Opera, and as such was really excited to be invited to go and shoot a couple of scenes from the media call for the Auckland season of the show. As a child I can remember my Mother playing the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack on record while doing chores around the house, and now that same record is mine, and still played regularly. While that album stars Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford, arguably the greatest stars to play the roles in the history of Phantom – I thoroughly enjoyed Barbara Graham and Chris Crowe as Christine and the Phantom and rate both of their voices just as highly, if not superior in some instances. I can’t speak for the rest of the cast, but if they’re even close to as good as the two leads this is going to be a show not to be missed! For those that have been living under a rock for the past 25 years, The Phantom of the Opera is based on the 1910 horror novel Le Fantôme de l’Opeéra by Gaston Leroux. It tells the tragic love story of a disfigured musical genius, living in the dark shadows of the Paris Opera House who falls for one of the bright upcoming Soprano’s. It’s a dark story with a mesmerizing score, magical design and stunning special effects, entirely composed and written by Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. This is playing for a strictly limited season, so make sure you get in early before it completely sells out!
