Arch Enemy

Arch Enemy

12th February 2023
Powerstation, Auckland, New Zealand

Photography by Peter Coates.

For the uninitiated, Arch Enemy are a Swedish Melodic Death Metal band. Originally fronted by ex Carnage vocalist Johan Liiva, who was replaced by German vocalist Angela Gossow in 2000. Gossow left the band in 2014 to become the group’s manager and was replaced by Canadian vocalist Alissa White-Gluz who left the loved Death Metal act The Agonist to be a part of the band.

Having released eleven studio albums, three live albums, three video albums and four EPs Arch Enemy are certainly prolific and quite frankly a bit of a force of nature. So it was very appropriate that, while the wind and rain of Cyclone Gabrielle was howling outside the Powerstation, inside Arch Enemy brought their maelstrom of metal to a very enthusiastic audience, alongside Pōneke blackened Thrash Metal band (and one of this editors favourite acts) Bulletbelt.

The Australian based music photographer (and all around great bloke) Peter Coates was in town last night to photograph both Arch Enemy and Bulletbelt and has filed this gallery of images from the show – check them all out below!

Were you there at the Powerstation for this magnificent technical death metal supergroup? Or have you seen Arch Enemy perform live somewhere else before? Tell us about it in the comments below!
