Bloodnut – St. Ranga
(Independent)

As pale death riders (very pale, they’re gingers after all remember…) Bloodnut come cresting the horizon of sludgey stoner doom rock with a twist of catchiness and swirly, concentric jams on their new album St. Ranga. Stumbling from the cosmos comes the stonking opening track and ballad of the album’s cover art muse – Space Orangutan, clocking in at just over 8 minutes and threatening to “rip your arms off and beat you with them…”; Bloodnut solidify their self-aware sense of humour and their ability to create a foot stomping jam.
Armed with crotches the colour of fire and a jumbo bottle of SPF 1000+ sunscreen wedged in their back pockets; Bloodnut urge us ever onward on our journey of discovery into their fuzzed out riffs before launching us into a stomping, crunchy punk brawl on That Fire Inside. Burning Bush calls out all self-limiting natural red heads to come forth, unfurl their gingerness and writhe in one triumphant freckled, sun-hating organism that lives on the bang of a strident snare and the raspy yell of their carrot-topped prophet. Coppery manes flowing behind them, these Red Dead Riders are efficient in wearing their influences on their sleeve while simultaneously creating interesting rock that’s adjacent to grunge, punk, metal and as mentioned stoner rock.
Well done you ginger sons, you’ve done your dwindling DNA strains proud.
