Tex-Mex indie rockers CALEXICO are bringing their “desert noir” sound to New Zealand for the first time in four years, performing at the Powerstation in Auckland this January.
The Arizona-bred band are touring in support of their critically acclaimed ninth studio album, The Thread That Keeps Us, recorded on the coast of Northern California in a self-built studio from debris and shipyard-salvaged timber dubbed “the Phantom Ship”. Across countless collaborations, movie scores and soundtracks, band leaders Joey Burns and John Convertino alongside their Calexico band members seamlessly infuse their border sound of surf, jazz, country and spachetti western epics into an unpredictable and intoxicating sound.
