Press Release:
David Byrne is perhaps best known for his work with Talking Heads, a band he and his art school colleagues founded in New York in 1975.
Since Talking Heads split in 1991, Byrne has released eight solo albums (with two more solo albums being released while he was still performing with Talking Heads), as well as scoring over ten film and theatre productions. David Byrne has also collaborated with some of the worlds biggest musicians in this time.
The American Utopia show incorporates some of the band’s biggest hits including Burning Down the House and Once in a Lifetime. It’s also packed with Byrne’s solo material and songs from his recent collaboration with St Vincent.
Performances in the USA, including a headlining spot at Coachella Festival have been met with rave reviews:
‘One of the most inspired, intriguing, energetic and joyful concerts in recent memory. To call it unique hardly does it justice.’ – The Calgary Herald
‘Already the toast of Coachella, Byrne’s new road show was a knockout’ – David Fricke, Rolling Stone
‘It’s honestly hard to believe the amazingness of David Byrne’s live show…Byrne radiates a joy while performing that few – if any – musicians can match.’ – Seattle Weekly
‘A marvel of staging and motion that was at once utterly novel and oddly comforting, the evening proved a celebration of Byrne’s music at its most rhythmic and transcendent.’ – Chicago Tribune
‘A thought provoking example of the power of live music.’ Forbes.com
‘Reports had been coming in from the east coast about how uniquely theatrical the setup is on his new “American Utopia” supporting tour, and the brain that designed “Stop Making Sense” didn’t disappoint.’ Variety.com, Coachella’s Top 10 Sets
‘Decades into his career, David Byrne remains an unpredictable, vital artist. There aren’t many who can say that.’ – LA Weekly
Byrne and his band will play Wellington’s TSB Bank Arena on November 13, Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena on November 15, and Auckland’s Spark Arena on November 17.
Tickets to all shows go on sale at 12pm next Monday, June 18.
