Fontaines D.C.
29th January 2023
Shed 6, Wellington, New Zealand
Photography by Maeve O’Connell.
Fontaines D.C. are an Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2017. The story goes that after the band met while attending music college and bonding over a common love of poetry, Fontaines D.C. began self-releasing singles while performing live regularly, quickly signing to a label in 2018.
The band’s debut album, ‘Dogrel’, was released in 2019 to widespread acclaim, and was quickly followed up by ‘A Hero’s Death’ in 2020 – this one earning them a “Best Rock Album” nod at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
2022 saw the release of their latest album ‘Skinty Fia’, and it is this album they are currently touring around the world. This past Sunday saw the band hit Shed 6 in Wellington before they were due to perform at the ill-fated Laneway Festival in Auckland on Monday.
Ambient Light photographer Maeve O’Connell was there to photograph both Fontaines D.C. and the support act Wiri Donna and has filed these amazing photo galleries from the night – check it all out below!
