You would be forgiven if you hadn’t heard of HICARI, especially over here in New Zealand. Hailing from Liverpool, England – HICARI (Inspired by the word for ‘Light’ in Japanese) are a multicultural 5-piece pop band that have been quietly touring, recording and working their way into the hearts and minds of fans across Britain and the United States, and now it’s time to take on the world!

HICARI use their influences to create new uplifting tracks, synth-hooks and driving melodies to compel you to dance or speak to your heart. Their sound is home to the influence of synth-pop artists such as CHRVCHES; The 1975; and St. Lucia, with everything 80s as the foundation.

Recently, HICARI kicked off 2017 with a bang when their collaboration on one of Anki‘s album tracks surpassed a million streams on Spotify as well as a coveted playlist spot on SiriusXM in America . The release of their new music video, ‘Stellar’ (check it out below) also celebrates a successful pledge campaign run by the band.

The video for ‘Stellar’ is a metaphorical representation of the song’s lyrical theme, tackling the subject of body image and the pressures to conform to modern-day, media perceptions of unrealistic beauty – something which lead singer Shai personally experienced while growing up. It is fun, playful and features sumo wrestlers (what more could you want really!?).
