Following hot on the heels of their recently released single Private Lives, Wellington-based KITA are delighted to announce a tour around Aotearoa in support of their debut self-titled album, visiting 8 centres this June.
Firmly on the ‘ones-to-watch’ list in a vibrant local music scene, KITA’s sound builds a dreamscape of synth-pop, with stunning melodies layered over soulful beats. The three-piece – consisting of vocalist, guitarist, and writer Nikita 雅涵 Tu-Bryant, keyboardist Ed Zuccollo (The Black Seeds, Trinity Roots, Troy Kingi, Hollie Smith), and drummer Rick Cranson (Little Bushman) – happily play in the space between genre, melding a distinctive style peppered with moments of modern jazz, vintage rock, polished pop, and grounding soul.
The trio are in their element in the live space, where their soaring synths rise to new heights, carried loftily by the impressive vocals of frontwoman Nikita. Her kaupapa-driven approach as an artist, telling stories that connect people through music, is most poignantly felt at KITA’s live shows. The magic of being in a shared space with other lovers of music is something the band feel especially lucky to be celebrating here in Aotearoa, as touring remains a rarity worldwide.
Due for release on May 28, the self-titled debut has been produced by Grammy Award-winning Tommaso Colliva (Muse, Razorlight). Bringing forth the psychedelic energy pulsing through their 2020 EP ‘Try To Find A Way’, the Italian producer worked with the band pre-pandemic and continued to collaborate remotely between Armoury Studio in Wellington and Colliva’s base in Milan over lockdown. A truly modern album that reflects the moment we find ourselves in has resulted – wistful and hopeful of what’s to come.
KITA will be joined in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch by band-member Ed Zuccollo’s other project ZUKE, an electronic-based exploratory journey into the physicality of deep bass, aimed at unleashing the immersive power of large sound-systems. Special guests for other shows are still to be announced.
