The XL Recordings duo SMERZ have just released their latest single ‘Oh My My‘, along with an accompanying music video (that you can view below)!
Norwegian born, Copenhagen based, Smerz – Henriette and Catharina – began collaborating after their inspired move to Denmark. Their music garnered the early attention of underground NTS Radio and the BBC’s Benji B. Smerz, who consistently blend sounds from various influences, are at the same time Scanpop and minimal modern techno. Their music is uniquely “Smerz”.
The press release for ‘Oh My My’ has this to say: “‘Oh My My’ etches into the surface of the soul, forging new territory through undulating pulses for the future of hipster R&B. Smerz’ music is a weird collision of field recordings, close and lackadaisical vocal work – whisperings through warped sonic beats. Smerz occupy this space, owning its hushed and viscous soundwaves. Easily translatable from club to bedroom, ‘Oh My My’ is for people who want to experience a rhythmic voyage in their own special place.”
So yes, an interesting musical duo indeed and certainly an act we here at Ambient Light are looking forward to exploring more over the coming months! For more information on Smerz you can follow them on Instagram or Facebook.
