The Red Paintings
20th August 2015
The Kings Arms Tavern, Auckland, New Zealand
The Red Paintings were here as support for …and you will know us by the Trail of Dead, and as such didn’t seem to have much hype about them leading up this gig. However I had been lucky enough to see them as support to The Dresden Dolls at the San Francisco Bath House in Wellington back in 2006 – so was absolutely amped to see them on the bill! The turnout for the gig itself was pitiful, even by mid-week in Auckland standards – largely helped by at least two other international acts playing elsewhere in the city. This ensured I was able to move around freely shooting from many different vantage points, and getting some of the greatest images I’ve ever shot in The Kings Arms Tavern. As for the Red Paintings performance – absolutely mindblowing. This is a band that should (and does, overseas) play large arena sized shows. Get out to see them if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed!
Equipment: Canon EOS 1DMkIIN; Canon EF 50mm f1.2L, Canon EF 70-210mm f4, Sigma EX 20mm f1.8
