To witness The Schizophonics perform live is a life-changing experience. I was chatting to a guy in the audience last night, a self-confessed “guy who doesn’t really get into music”, there with his mates to check out The D4 (who were also playing last night, and while this isn’t about them, they were damn good as well – but you all knew they were going to be from the beginning, right!?).

In his words he was “…hanging around off to the side, when The Schizophonics hit the stage and drew him down to the front”. There was mentions of that Mick Jagger swagger and the (Pete Townshend like) windmill guitar playing. And the drummer, she was so good! Keeping the madness in check with her heavy hitting! He was stoked, and I was stoked for him for being there. He mentioned about how the moment he heard there would be a gig at Whammy Bar this Wednesday he wanted to take his son along (Which I of course told him is a magnificent idea – you’re welcome kid!), so that he can witness the whirlwind that is a Schizophonics show, and perhaps it might unlock something inside him making him want to be a kick-ass musician one day…

Cool eh? And speaking of cool – to be honest, this little rambling anecdote doesn’t even begin to come close to explaining how cool these cats are on stage. Don’t believe me? Well The Schizophonics are in town for a little while, performing live at Whammy Backroom this Wednesday, with gigs in Whangarei, Thames, The Mount and Piha in the coming days, check out here for more details!

So this has been fun and all, but I have to roll. It’s my birthday and I need to pour myself a coke and get a Schizophonics album on the turntable immediately to get this party started – so just go check them out at one of their upcoming shows ok!? Oh, and check out the gallery of photos I shot too, you just need to scroll down a wee bit more…
